We always come across with word “Nutrition” but do we know what it is or why it is important, here to explain the importance.
I am Anjali Shukla, a certified Nutritionist from Bangalore India.
Today I am going to give some light on Nutrition, You know good nutrition play important role in our life. It can help guard against malnutrition and help prevent diseases such as obesity, diabetes and many life-threatening diseases.
What Nutrition and Nutrients do for our Health?
- Nutrition is the study of how food and drink affect our bodies with special regard to the essential nutrients necessary to support human health.
- It is also the process of taking in food and converting it into energy and other vital nutrients required for life.
- Good Nutrition aids the Immune system. As our immune system is our defence against diseases, and so poor nutrition can mean we are more prone to these.
- A well-balanced diet that consists of fruit, vegetables and low fats will help to keep your immune system strong and healthy and defend against diseases.

Now, what are Nutrients, it’s the compounds in food that provide us energy that facilitates repair and growth and helps to carry out different life processes.

Nutrients are divided into two categories.
- Macronutrients are required by the body in large amounts.
- Micronutrients are required by the body in small amounts.
Macronutrients provide energy to a living being for the function of the metabolic system. It provides massive energy and is converted to use to obtain the energy. Macronutrients include fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.
Micronutrient provides essential components for metabolism to be carried out. They also build and repair damaged tissues in order to control the body’s process. Micronutrients include calcium, iron, vitamins, iron, minerals, and vitamin C.

The main nutrients our bodies use for energy are carbohydrates, fats, and protein.
- You can find carbohydrates in foods such as wholegrain bread and starchy vegetables like potatoes.
- These foods digest at a slow rate and therefore offer prolonged energy.
- Water is also necessary in order to transport nutrients throughout our bodies, with dehydration from lack of water causing an absence of energy.
- It is important for the body to function properly, grow appropriately, and be healthy, one must consume enough macronutrients (proteins, carbs, fats, and water) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals).
- Most of us think that eating healthy can help maintain our weight. But healthy eating goes beyond maintaining your weight.
- You get your energy from nutrients, including protein, vitamins, minerals, and fats, which also support the efficient functioning of your body. It can maintain a good heart, improve well-being, maintain the immune system, delay the effects of aging, and also May lengthen life span.
- So a person must consume about 2000 calories daily, often spread out between 3 to 6 meals.
- Fruit and vegetables in various colors should make up around half of what we consume; the more comprehensive the rainbow, the better.
